Damn it! I’m wrong yet again. Man, solid state technology has gone and passed me by. This new radar system uses active phased array radar. Basically it has lots of small transmit/receive modules instead of a large antenna powered by a TWT. So the solid state technology does not need one large amplifier, just lots of small ones to power the individual T/R modules. When you combine the power of all those little T/R modules, it can surpass the power of one TWT.

FYI.
I'm 90% sure that the X-Band radar is powered by none other than a TWT. It might be a CCTWT or Helical one, but definitely a TWT.
